The concept for BOLDer Magazine was born out of 35 years of community relations work in the construction materials, aggregates, and mining industries. As a community engagement tool, BOLDer Magazine hopes to support a positive public perception of the wise use of our natural resources. With every issue, we hope to inform and inspire readers to see our resources up close, where they are found, how they are managed, and the results of our stewardship.
Helping to support our industries’ families. We believe that the men and women who have dedicated their careers to these industries are unsung heroes in today’s workforce. It is critically important to show how we responsibly mine our natural resources and how we respect the nature around our operations. In other words, we emphasize that mining and true environmental stewardship go hand-in-hand.
Educators in schools and at home: Supporting time away from screens, BOLDer is only available in print. But the magazine does use digital technology in a robust way. Using QR codes throughout the magazine, BOLDer’s Bonus Content hosts easy to use audio files, videos, and links to more resources. There is no limit to our ability to turn curiosity into deeper learning and appreciation.
We hope to leverage the content in print to spark the next generation into a life-long interest and appreciation for our natural resources.

We used BOLDer Magazine during our participation in a 5th-grade career day at a local intermediate school. BOLDer allowed us to amplify our message about the importance of mining while providing a great take-home that can be passed along to family members when the students return home. Our long-term goal is to work with teachers, by subsidizing subscription costs, to encourage BOLDer to be worked into their lesson plans.
I just reviewed BOLDer Magazine, and I’m very impressed! There’s a lot of variety. In 4th grade, we study animal structure and functions. Energy (including gravity and batteries), light waves, and rocks in relation to weathering and erosion. We also cover natural disasters and ways to reduce their impact, and all of this is included in the magazine. I also love the inclusion of symmetry and tessellations in the math section, which we cover in 4th grade math.
